Prototype Program
GTSC's Low Speed Prototype
About
The team's first foray into aircraft development, manufacturing, and testing, the Prototype Program aims to develop the team's engineering skills and workflows, serving as a learning tool to develop future aircraft. The flagship vehicle in the program, initially known as Proto but affectionately nicknamed Hyperion, is a 150mph EDF-powered fixed-wing drone that will redefine what student teams at Georgia Tech can achieve. It will be the fastest such vehicle developed by Georgia Tech Students and will provide a low-cost testbed for future software and hardware modification projects including autonomous control systems, gimballing FPV cameras, and a host of in-fight sensors. Set to fly by the end of 2024, Hyperion marks the start of our team's journey to break the speed of sound.
